do soft toy animals have feelings?

Hi all. I know this might sound a strange question, but do those who own soft toy animals believe they have feelings? come on, be honest here! I know when my lions and polar bears are not feeling to good, they tell me right enough *smile* your stories please.

um no corse then again I've never had one

Post 3 by Rune Knight (Ancient Demon - Darkness will always conquer Light!) on Friday, 06-Apr-2007 14:11:57

Umm... riiiiight! Stuffed animals do not have feelings, only real animals do.

Post 4 by crimson x (This site is so "educational") on Friday, 06-Apr-2007 14:14:07

exactly what I'm thinking

Post 5 by Twinklestar09 (I've now got the bronze prolific poster award! now going for the silver award!) on Friday, 06-Apr-2007 14:34:12

I don't know, but I talk to my dolls sometimes and some of my stuffed animals. I also don't like that my mom thinks they should just be stored in a box like nothing. I would rather them be out and fixed up sitting on a shelf or on my bed and able to look at each other or out at the rest of the room. Also, most of them have names.

Post 6 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Friday, 06-Apr-2007 14:35:39

hehehe, I was expecting comments like this *grin* it's just a fun question really.

Post 7 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Friday, 06-Apr-2007 16:33:10

I have named some of my soft toy animals, and they even have their own personallities based on their appearance or how they feel when you pick them up. for instance Snowy half tail is a white tigress, she's fat and has huge paws. she also has half a tail, or it seems tthat way as her tail is so much shorter than her body that it looks out of proportion. snowy's fat appearance, plus her huge paws and the way she sprawls on her side envokes to me a very huggable, very protective tigress, a character that would look after anyone's cubs, be they tiger cubs or even polar bear cubs.

No, i'm thinking somebody hasn't taken their meds today and maybe needs to go take care of that before they hurt themselves or someone else while thinking.

rofl. I'm not entirely sure if this speaks of an overactive imagination, or something much, much worse.

It's 6:13. Do you know where your children are? Well...stop talking to that stuffed...something-or-other. It's not telling me what it is. help?

Post 11 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Friday, 06-Apr-2007 22:24:06

I don't think stuffed animals have feelings. I'm a collector myself, but that is because every stuffed animal I've ever had has to do with something that has taken place in my life. I don't talk to them. That's just weird.

Post 12 by DancingAfterDark (I just keep on posting!) on Friday, 06-Apr-2007 22:28:17

Oh yes, I have a teddy bear and a stuffed bat and a dog and a monkey, and they all talk to me. Sometimes they fight and I have to separate them, but they always make up in the end.
Drugs are fun, hmmm?

And Jim, it's a cat, duh. And it told me it doesn't like you.

She's from France! Sometimes I practice my French with her! Hey the Zoo KeeHey the Zoo Keeper do you believe in guides as well?

Post 17 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Saturday, 07-Apr-2007 9:30:04

I believe there is another dimention, not necessarily a god, but a spiritual dimention, which I have written about in my diary of a four pawed community. the story of Eohippus is quite an involved one, but all the animals from tigers to polar bears believe the stories of Eohippus. the story goes that back in the eosine, Eohippus, or the dawn horse, and a white lioness were friends, both ate plants and roots. one day, for some reason, the lioness gave birth to fourteen cubs, all the cubs ate meat. the dawn horse heard of this, and because she was so gentle, she couldn't bring herself to kill the cubs, and gave her life and those of her dicendents to the carnivors until the carnivors learned to eat egitables again. the horse is strong, loyal and brave, with inner wizdom and spiritual strength. the meat eating animals believe in eohippus, and sometimes the horse helps the community out. It's a long tale. the four pawed community, especially the lion leader Samson all say hi *smile*

Chelsea, what ever shall I do?

I'm despised by something I'm told is a stuffed cat--though it's never actually talked to me to confirm this. Oh...how will I live?

Oh hell! Gotta go pull this oreo apart...the two halves are fighting or something.

What what? They're supposed to be stuck together like that?

Post 20 by DancingAfterDark (I just keep on posting!) on Saturday, 07-Apr-2007 22:58:30

Well, it's talked to me. I told you, it doesn't like you. It's giving you the silent treatment. And it says everyone should know that Oreos can't fight with each other. They're inanimate. Gosh, weirdo!

Oops, gotta go. All the dolls locked up in a box in my closet are starting to mutiny. If I don't survive ...

Post 21 by Rune Knight (Ancient Demon - Darkness will always conquer Light!) on Sunday, 08-Apr-2007 0:01:22

What are the Oreo's suppose to do just sit there, until someone dips them in glass of milk and gobble them down, hell I would. Gimme some fucking Oreos!

Yeah I also bought an evil chicken today from Wal-Mart, I brought it home and pressed the button and it attacked my poor cat, she's still hiding under the table since the chicken is still by the cat dish and litter box. Maybe I should move it... "GRINS"

I stopped conversing with my stuffed animals years ago. That's not to say I don't have a sense of humor. Sometimes I'll bring this small puppy with me to bed at night, but that's about it.

Post 24 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Sunday, 08-Apr-2007 9:51:10

mutinous cookie? a horrid cchicken? hmm, i know some of the ainimatronic plush creatures can be a bit scary sometimes. you switch the power on and wait for something to happenntohawhen you least expect it, the thing be it a chicken or whatever springs to life and star moving around, growling or clucking depending on the animal. I believe the fur ever friends polar bear is rather crazy, though I've never seen one.

Post 28 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Tuesday, 10-Apr-2007 3:36:55

hehehe, my animals talk to me all the time. the scaryest thing that has happened recently was with a tiger who lives here. he was on top of the quilt, then when I came back into the room, he was beneath it, and not just a little, cuddled right beneath the quilt so that only his nose showed. I didn't move him, so who did?

Post 37 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Thursday, 19-Apr-2007 16:02:08

I think the move into animatronics is great. the problem is, getting hold of some of the larger anamatronic animals is difficult as the companies won't sell them to indeviduals. The fur Real Friends range of animatronic soft toys is ment to be a lot of fun, though I've only read about them. btw, nanuq, one of my polar bears came to me for a hug today, and within five minutes he was asleepp. I hear a white lion or two need a home shortly,so I'll be inviting them to get their paws in the door very soon. My bears tigers and lions love having their paws massaged, they say it greatly soothes them.

Bronner's is located in Michigan, USA and caters in particular to the holiday Christmas but equally has decor of all holidays represented. The thing being that displays are available to be purchased and grant many would be on the level of purchase, say for example, a store or community building placing up displays as opposed to say individuals.

The reason though that I have posted here is that there have been various individual displays of say grizzly bears, polar bears, penguins, and so forth that are life like in size and are animated and appear to be as liken to stuffed animals and may be purchased by individuals. If interested, contact:
Call Kevin at 989-652-9935 ext. 431 or email kmaurer@bronner.com for more information.

Thank you for your post Connie! It sounds like a cool store! To the other Christian person! All the psycoligists I've been too don't acknowlidge God! So that's why I don't believe in them! My mom took me to one when I was 12 it was caus I was shy! He said I'd grow out of it! I do like the grief concelor that my mom made me tgo to when my dad that doctor person is a Christian! OK, so just because the psychologists you've met don't acknowledge God, you don't believe in all of them? Hmmm a bit overkill maybe? I doubt you've met even 1% of all psychologists in the world. Just a thought

Post 43 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Friday, 20-Apr-2007 1:04:38

hi connie: I think that store sounds great, but the import tax and junk we have to pay when importing from the US to the UK would make those sort of things prohibitavly expencive. so maybe not at the moment. Re psycologists etc, the best psycologist Ive ever found has hooves and a liking for polo mints. Horses can unscramble minds *smile* I work around horses every week.

Post 44 by retrieverdog (when I'm in seventh hour, my work does show.) on Friday, 20-Apr-2007 20:11:42

ok here's my thought. I believe that in your immagination, they can have feelings. I know that I used to make believe that all the time.

Post 45 by season (the invisible soul) on Saturday, 21-Apr-2007 7:32:41

well, i do think they do have feelings. just as how you treated them. like you zoo keeper for example, have so many soft animals, when you pick certain animal in certain mood, or certain day, isn't it reflect on what and how you feel about them at that particular time? therefore, they have feelings because your feeling reflects on them. hope this is an answer? lol
cheers, season

Post 46 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Saturday, 21-Apr-2007 9:16:21

this topic has turned into a rather serious discussion about pcycology etc. which is an intresting angle. My comment about them having feelings was a bit tongue in cheek I must say, but it is true that some soft toy animals, depending on how they are made, have either a friendly atitude or a hostile one. I had a horse once who looked angry because of the way he was made, his head was positioned in such a way that he looked at you with a disgusted expression. others have atitudes which speak of unspoken hardships. Snowy half tail, my white tigress, lies on my bed with a perminantly exhausted air, as if she is perminantly worn down by her life. Other animals look alert, ssome just want to fall asleep. yes Season, I suppose you're right in what you say. Snowy's taken it upon herself to look after orphan cubs now, which is great. A tigress looking after lynx cubs? hmm.

Post 47 by Selena Fan (Account disabled) on Saturday, 21-Apr-2007 10:53:10

The Zoo Keeper I love your last post! You said it all in a nut shell! Ashley I just told you how I feel about shrinks! I mean I just don't see the point in having to go to them! I believe with God we can over come anything!

Post 48 by Grace (I've now got the ggold prolific poster award! wahoo! well done to me!) on Saturday, 21-Apr-2007 11:44:10

I must say that I am in agreement with the comments of Season in that the feelings we are experiencing or recognize being experienced around us by others we can easily convey to the Soft Creature toys as well as the some times not so soft Soft Creature toys that we have...

...that anamatronic Guinea pig of Speedie's for example sounds like a real handful to manage. Wondering what the teeth are like on Tiddles and whether or no if she bites and thinking she must be a Real Biker Hog! *wondering if Tiddles wears a Black or Pink leather biker's jacket

Post 49 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Saturday, 21-Apr-2007 11:58:47

those animatronre quite a bit of fun so 've heard. the thing is, switch, maybe get rid of that so it can't be turned off? then, I suppose the bll last quite a long time in the animal, so you'd have to look after it for a long time before the power went. I don't think I could ever press the switch to silence an animatronic animal if I got one. I mean, what's the point in that? maybe the animatrinic animals could be used to teach children how to look after real pets?

Greetings Selena and All who may be interested, (Note: Religious content follows)

A couple of verses I leave you with to think upon and take into consideration. Both are found in Proverbs. The first in Proverbs 11:14 reads, "Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety." and then in Proverbs 15:22 we find, "Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established."

My personal take on all of this is that counsellors and then taking the term to include those of the psy. fields of study.. well, there are a lot of good ones and in their midst we can find the guidance and the awakening of where we are finding ourselves and learn to become better enabled to cope in the face of disasters and various heartaches.

And just as much as there are those that we can and ought to go for seeking wise counsel, so too the awareness that not all are in a place of where good counsel and help there is to be relied upon. There is a need of each to truly seek out matters, to think issues through. I will leave you with for example the verses located in 2 Chronicles chapter 22 where it speaks of counsellors who did wickedly, who were out to promote harmful actions.

This is getting away from The Zoo Keeper's topic so Selena please feel free to private mail me if you so desire.

Connie

Post 53 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Sunday, 22-Apr-2007 17:19:10

the smaller animatronic animals are great yess. btw, the panda cub has settled down after her tumble, and is now sleeping in the warm embrace of a polar bear's paws. you see, the older members of the community will look after the young cubs, no matter who those cubs belong to. A tigress looks after lion cubs, pandas look after polar bear cubs, polar bears look after tiger and otter cubs.

furbys are most likely found on ebay. btw, Samson, a lion, and leader of the four pawed community says he likes the large rug he sleeps on, but would much rather have a quilt. The problem is, the quilt is too crowded and he cant find space on it. so, stretching his paws and yawning, Samson falls asleep.

Talking with your plush is no weirder than talking with your cats. I personally enjoy swapping quips with E. Bunny, Pierre le Bear, or Schlepp Bear. These guys are well-read, interested in stuff, and have active lives. Hmmm... kinda like the humans I like to hang out with.

Post 73 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Friday, 19-Oct-2007 5:36:21

E bunny? put it together and it's ebunny, is that a play on words? anyway, two lions got their paws in the dorr yesterday, and there was a deal of head rubbing, sniffing and general settling down when they arrived. Kamchatka loves massaging her own hind paws, and can often be seen doing it when she think's noone's watching her. soppy old thing she is. *smile*

Post 74 by jbannick (Generic Zoner) on Friday, 19-Oct-2007 17:54:39

Formally, it's E. Pluribus Bunny.
He plans on being the first Chairbunny of the U.S. Federal Reserve.
He has his cell phone, his golf clubs, his golf visor, his bunny girlfriend, Greta (She's an actor) his other bunny girl friend, Florabelle (She's into furniture) his buddy, Ralph the dog, who lives in some I-state: Indiana, Illinois, Michigan. E isn't sure. E's very upset today with the stock market. His military-industrial portfolio took a dive. Ralph's portfolio is always in el toiletto. E has his own passport, stamped by US and UK Immigration. He likes London, especially the School of Economics, and Venice, where he met another plush on the Rialto bridge. He tells me that I see University in the Oxford yards; he sees a buffet. And the Irish waitress at "Chaucer's" restaurant at Oxford was very skeptical of E.

Post 75 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Friday, 19-Oct-2007 18:02:09

heheh, mine aren't into any of the stocks stuff, nor would they go to restaurants, though allie and some of the others like messing with the pc. though most of the four pawed community just enjoy snuggling down together, stroking each other's paws and watching the tv or listening to the radio.

Post 76 by jbannick (Generic Zoner) on Saturday, 20-Oct-2007 11:55:02

Grizzly Bear,

What do Allie and the others do on the PC? Our non-plush cat, Orange, used to tromp on the keyboard to watch the DOS cursor move.

BTW. Eleanor and I were discussing computer games last night and came up with the idea for an accessible computer Role Playing Game where the Player Character and Non-Player Characters are all plush.

A real simple game with the usual stuff. Except that you enter specifics (stats, personality features) for your individual plush. You could associate sounds with a plush, also, for the sighted, photos.

And it would include a simple accessible level editor, so you could build your own stories.

We have all the code needed because of the accessible games our company makes. Though it would take awhile to assemble it all.

What do you think?

keep the idea going jbanik. re what the animals do on the net, not much, though the polar bears have wondered if the internet could connect them to the arctic. re your cat walking on the keyboard to make the curser move, that's cats all over for you isn't it? *smile*

It's called stuffed for a reason... you know...? It's made of cloth and polyester

Wow, I know we're all suppose to use imagination, but this is crazy. I use to play wit my stuffed animals when I was young, and make them talk and do things, but now I don't have anywhere to put them so they're just sitting in a bag until I can get a shelf to put them up. But real animals are wonderful. Even though they can't talk, they at least know when you're sad or happy and they're good at sensing emotions, so yeah... I really don't know what to say about all this... But if he wants to have fun with his toys, just let him. Don't fight about religion on here or other things, just too much drama in my oppinion. But everyone's got the right to say whatever they want, so if you don't wanna listen, then that's your thing. But I've said my piece, and now to vacume up real dog hair again. lol.

hehe i work with real horses too, so i do know the diffrence between reality and fiction. anyway, this topic was set up in a spirit of fun. of course, in this world, any notion of that has pretty much vanished, or so i feel.

it seems, on rereading some of the posts on this board, that some take this topic in the spirit it was meant, and others don't. hehe
